STRUCTURE II: SIMPLE SENTENCE, COMPOUND SENTENCE, COMPLEX SENTENCE, COMPOUND-COMPLEX SENTENCE

1. SIMPLE SENTENCE
     One subject   verb, and completed thought.
Example: Bobby waited for the train.
Ø  Subject: Bobby
Ø  verb: waited

2.COMPOUND SENTENCE
     Two complete sentence joined by a comma coordinate conjunction [and, or, yet , but, for, etc.]
Example: Bobby waited for the rain, but the rain was late.
Ø  Two complete sentence: Bobby waited for the rain, the rain was late.
Ø  Coordinate conjunction: but.

3.COMPLEX SENTENCE
One complete sentence [also know as an independent or main clause] 1 subordinate [ or dependent] clause [missing either a subject or a predicate, or introduce by a conjunctive adverb [if, when, after, before, etc]
Example: while Bobby waited at the train station, chanwoo realized that the train was late.
Ø  Dependent: while Bobby waited at the train station.
Ø  Independent: chanwoo realized that the train was late.

4.COMPOUND-COMPLEX SENTENCE
     A compound-complex sentence is made from two independent clauses and one or more dependent clause.
Example: while Bobby waited at the train station, chanwoo stayed in station, and realized that train was late.
Ø  Independent: chanwoo stayed in station and realized that train was late.
Ø  Dependent: while Bobby waited at the train station.
