Free Morphemes
Free Morphemes
is is a morpheme that can stand alone into a word without having to be attached
to other morphemes. Free morphemes have several types that is nouns, adjectives
and others.
Example :
Nouns: girl,
hat, house, fire
Verbs: walk, sleep, say, eat
Adjectives: quick, nice, fun, big
Free morpheme can be divided into 2, the first lexical morpheme
(open class) and the second functional morpheme (closed class).
Lexical morphemes are morpheme can be added with affixes
such as suffix(awalan) or prefix (akhiran)
Example :
Noun : House + s = Houses
Adjective : Un + Happy = Unhappy
Verb : Write + s = Writes
Adverb : Slow + ly =Slowly
Adjective : Un + Happy = Unhappy
Verb : Write + s = Writes
Adverb : Slow + ly =Slowly
Functional
morphemes are morphemes that cannot be preffix and suffix affixes
Example :
Prepositions : At, On
Pronouns : I, you, they
Conjunction : And, Or, But
Bound Morphemes
Bound Morphemes are morphemes that cannot stand alone but
must be bound / attached to other morphemes. Bound morphemes are divided into
2, namely derivational morphemes and inflectional morphemes.
• Derivational morphemes are morphemes which
when attached / attached to other morphemes will form new morphemes / words or
to form words with different grammar (lexeme) from the previous word. In
derivational there are 2 types, namely, there can be in the beginning of a word
(prefixes) or in the end of a word (suffixes), in Indonesian we usually know it
as affixes.
Example: the word beautiful (adj) is derived
from the word beauty (noun) which is added with the morpheme "ful"
which changes the noun to an adjective. So from that reason, the morpheme
"ful" is included in the suffix derivational morphemes (at the end of
the word) because it changes the word from noun lexeme to become an adjective
lexeme.
• Inflectional morphemes are morphemes that
are tied / affixed to other morphemes which are only to identify grammar, not
to produce new words or form words with a different grammar (lexeme) from the
previous word.
Example: the word books (noun) is derived
from the word book (noun), here book turns into books because to explain that
there are many books (plural), so it doesn't change the lexeme of the word,
because the word book to books remains in lexeme the same one namely noun
lexeme.
Allomorph is a form variant of the morpheme which describes sounds and phonetic symbols but does not change the meaning of the word.
Like the example below:
1. Their "An" and "A" are Allomorphs for example, "An Apple" and "A Banana '' sound and spell differently, but they both have the same meaning which is a single meaning.
2. "in" and "il" they are Allomorphs, for example, the words "incapable" and "illegal". The two words here are different in sound and spelling, but they both have the same meaning, namely negative meaning.
So Allomorph is a morpheme variant of sound, spelling and phonetics which does not change the meaning by adjusting the conditions.
